Southern Kentucky Vascular Is the First Outpatient Center in Kentucky to Offer Shockwave Lithotripsy

Press Release | Announcing the addition of Shockwave Lithotripsy, becoming the first outpatient vascular center in Kentucky to offer this advanced treatment for patients with severe arterial calcification

SOMERSET, KY January 26, 2026 — Southern Kentucky Vascular is proud to announce the addition of Shockwave Lithotripsy, becoming the first outpatient vascular center in Kentucky to offer this advanced treatment for patients with severe arterial calcification.

Shockwave Lithotripsy is a minimally invasive technology designed to treat heavily calcified plaque in the arteries. Using acoustic pressure waves, the treatment helps fracture hardened calcium deposits, allowing arteries to expand more effectively and improving blood flow. This approach can enhance outcomes for patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) and other complex vascular conditions that are difficult to treat with traditional methods alone.

“Calcified arterial disease can significantly limit treatment options for patients,” said Dr. Don W. Brown, founder of Southern Kentucky Vascular. “By offering Shockwave Lithotripsy in an outpatient setting, we are able to bring an advanced, evidence-based therapy to our region and treat patients who might otherwise require referral outside of Kentucky.”

Peripheral artery disease affects millions of Americans and often presents as leg pain, cramping, or fatigue with walking. In advanced cases, calcification can make arteries rigid and resistant to standard balloon angioplasty. Shockwave Lithotripsy allows physicians to address this challenge while minimizing trauma to the vessel.

Southern Kentucky Vascular is committed to providing state-of-the-art vascular care close to home. The addition of Shockwave Lithotripsy reflects the practice’s ongoing investment in advanced technology, patient-centered care, and minimally invasive treatment options.

Patients undergoing Shockwave Lithotripsy are typically treated on an outpatient basis, with no hospital stay required and a focus on faster recovery and improved circulation.
